A play about acting. Onstage and off.
The play "ensemble" is a two-act satire of the Chicago improvisational theatre community, chronicling the rise and plummet of an typical improv group headed by director Stan Lowell (Brad Norman) and his trusty assistant Danny Lyman (J. Preddie Predmore). While attempting to mount yet another improv show, the troupe (Michael Kuya, Paul-Samuel Fraley, Sarah Pickett, David Castro and Manny Sosa) is faced with more than their share of backstage infighting, politicking, infidelity, intrigue and dismemberment. During this chaos, Stan tries to maintain a precarious relationship with a married woman (Caitlin Tauer).
The play was written and directed by Vincent Truman with Zackary A. Prince and Tina Lamb as the assistant directors and voices of reason. Photography by Melissa Jackson. Project assistance by Darcy Brisco and Crystal Moore. Original soundtrack (available on CD) recorded by the cast and crew.
At present (Fall 2000), the show is being retooled and revised by Truman, who intends to remount it sometime in early 2001 with his co-producers in the Viable Theatre Company.
